Portera AI Governance

AI is scaling fast. Here’s how you govern it.

One register. Four questions it has to answer.

The control centre reads your platforms directly — gateway telemetry, cloud resource inventory, billing exports — and keeps one record per AI asset at each level of the taxonomy. The answers come from the estate, not from a spreadsheet somebody maintains.

Three composition levels. Five patterns. One vocabulary.

Every record in the register classifies to a level and a pattern before anything else happens to it. The level decides the record shape and where cost is metered. The pattern decides which controls apply.

L1

Platform

Where AI executes, and where metering and policy can be enforced.

  • Lakehouse with model serving and a governed catalogue
  • Cloud model hosting and the inference gateway in front of it
  • Ontology and operational decisioning platform
  • Agent runtime and orchestration framework
  • Vector store and retrieval service
  • Edge inference runtime on plant hardware
  • SaaS with vendor AI embedded, running in the vendor tenant
L2

Application

What a user or a process touches. Owned by a business owner, carries the value case.

  • Field service and customer support assistant over a service knowledge base
  • Contract review and clause extraction workbench
  • Demand and supply forecasting workbench
  • Sourcing and procurement agent with tool access to the ERP
  • In-line quality inspection on the production line
  • Pricing and revenue-growth recommender
  • Enterprise knowledge assistant over the document estate
L3

AI function

The capability inside an application. Where the model, the prompt and the guardrail live.

  • Retrieval-augmented generation pipeline, with its chunking and index
  • Classification and named-entity extraction model
  • Time-series forecasting model, including foundation-model cold start
  • Ranking and recommendation model
  • Computer-vision defect detection model
  • Speech-to-text and meeting summarisation
  • Tool-calling step inside an agent graph
  • Guardrail function: PII redaction, prompt-injection and jailbreak screening
  • Embedding generation and the vector index it writes to

Cost allocates upward: metered at L1, attributed to the L2 that called it, split to the L3 that did the work. Risk assesses downward: the tier set at L2 determines the control set each L3 inherits. An L3 that appears without an L2 owner is the most common finding on first connection.

What it runs on.

The control centre is the surface. Underneath it sits the governance that makes the answers true.

Policy and taxonomy

Five patterns across three composition levels. The pattern drives the control set; the level drives the record shape and the metering point.

Registry

One record per asset at L1, L2 and L3, keyed to the platform identifier. Registration is a gate at intake, and the register is the reuse check before anything is built.

Controls and guardrails

Deterministic rules keyed to pattern and lifecycle phase. Each has a trigger, an accountable owner, a verification method and an evidence location, enforced in the pipeline rather than requested later.

Documentation

AI profile, data classification, risk tier, approval and decision record, versioned with the asset so an auditor reads the record instead of interviewing the team.

AI FinOps

Cost drivers per pattern, a rate source per platform line, consumption metered at the gateway and allocated L1 to L2 to L3 against a named cost-centre owner.

Value framework

One intake path, six gates from capture to realise, one value and cost tree. Baseline frozen at commit, realised value reconciled quarterly.

Reporting

Portfolio view by pattern, tier, owner, run cost and realised value — the basis for funding, defunding and the evidence pack at audit.

Trusted by the world’s leading companies

What it solves.

No single view

AI is provisioned on four or five platforms by teams who do not report to each other. Gateway telemetry and resource inventory reconcile into one register, including the assets nobody declared.

Controls that never line up

Security requirements, platform controls and audit's matrix exist as three separate lists. They resolve into one deterministic rule set, keyed to pattern and lifecycle phase.

Cost nobody owns

Consumption is billed at platform level and stops there. Metering at the gateway allocates it down to the application and the function, against a named cost-centre owner.

Value nobody checks

Business cases are written to pass a gate and never revisited. The baseline is frozen at commit and reconciled against run cost each quarter.

Reviews that take weeks

Assurance goes looking for evidence that was never captured. Evidence location is a field on the control, populated at the time the control fires.

Rebuilding what already exists

Two teams build the same extraction pipeline because neither can see the other. The register is the reuse check at intake.

See it running. Then see it against your estate.
